Boston Logan International Airport

Officially known as General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport and named for a Spanish-American War major general who grew up in South Boston, Logan Airport first opened as a military base. It began commercial flights in 1926 and passenger service from Boston to New York in 1929, making it one of the earliest full-service airports in the United States. It is the largest airport in New England, with six runways built across islands in Boston Harbor from East Boston to Winthrop.

Logan Airport is the 10th busiest airport in the United States for cargo and the 16th busiest for passengers. Since the mid 1970s, Boston Logan has been a major hub of international travel, offering nonstop long-haul flights from the United States to destinations in Europe.
